SHEFFIELD, MONDAY 29 MARCH – SATURDAY 3 APRIL 2010: The best of British swimming will take to the water in Sheffield this week at the British Gas Swimming Championships.

The biggest event of the year in the British swimming calendar, swimmers will be battling it out in the pool not just for a national title, but also for the chance to represent their country at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games later this year – as this year, the event will also form a major part of qualification for the Commonwealth and European teams.

The Championships are also the first major opportunity for young swimmers in the team to gain serious recognition on the national stage amongst their more experienced peers – one of the most anticipated showdowns being between emerging talent Jazmin Carlin, against double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington, & Olympic medallist Jo Jackson, in the middle distance Freestyle events. The recent Great Britain Vs Germany Swim Meet in Swansea saw Carlin beat Adlington to the wall, and she will be looking for similar results in Sheffield.

Some of the competitors and their events include:
•Hannah Miley, Aberdeenshire – 400m I.M & 200m Butterfly
•Fran Halsall, Southport – 50m, 100m & 200m Freestyle
•Liam Tancock, Exeter – 50m & 100m Backstroke, 100m & 200m I.M
•Jazmin ‘Jazz’ Carlin, Swansea – 200m, 400m & 800m Freestyle
